Re: new scammer - Sharon Laws
Hello everyone,
I want to warn you about a new scammer called Sharon Laws. She contacted me over TranslationDirectory with a job request. Since her E-Mail sounded very suspicious and she didn´t provide any details, I did some research and found similar warnings in proz.com with the exact same E-Mail-texts and even the same translation text.
She will ask you for a translation, accepts any price you offer and even a great deadline. Then she asks you for your address to send you a cheque which will obviously be too high, then she wants you to transfer the excessing amount....and the cheque will bounce. I have already had some experience with other cheaters like her and therefore I am very careful when I receive such E-Mails.
Be careful and in case of any further information or question, feel free to contact me.
Claudia
Hi everyone,
I am in contact with this Sharon Laws person as well and have received a check as an advance payment, which indeed is higher than the amount stipulated for the translation job. She wants me to send her the difference with instructions to follow.
Now: I will not send her anything, until my bank confirms that the check does not bounce.
My question is: how did you get scammed? Did you complete the job, send it to her and then the check bounced or did you send her the difference before getting the OK from your bank that the check is good?
Thx for letting me know, as I find myself in a weird situation right now and I don't know how to deal with it exactly.
Thank you
All the best,
Federico
