I am a native Cebuano speaker from Biliran, Visayas, Philippines. I grew up in a bilingual household. Both of my parents are professional English teachers working for the government. In casual conversation, we interchange between the two. I am also exposed to ecclesiastical and liturgal Cebuano as I and my family are members of a Protestant denomination. In church, the deep standard Cebuano is used, the one based on the Sialo dialect in Southern Cebu. Aside from this, I am close to my grandmother as well as the other elders in my barangay. We talk frequently and as a result, I learned so much from them and got accustomed to their way of speaking. Because I am part of the younger generation, I am very much familiar and aquainted with modern Cebuano. Moreover, I have relatives and cousins from Bohol, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Leyte, Northern and Southern Mindanao. All of us speak the same language but in different dialects. Our annual family reunion makes us stay in touch with each other and because of this, I am no stranger to dialectal Cebuano. The past couple of years, I've been involved in multiple language learning groups online specifically Visayan languages and Cebuano.
