Award-winning literary translator and bilingual author with 30 years of professional experience working between English and Bengali. I have translated major works by Amitav Ghosh (The Hungry Tide), Upamanyu Chatterjee (The Revenge of the Non-Vegetarian), and Fazal Sheikh (Moksha), along with multiple children's books that bring international literature to Bengali-speaking young readers. As an author, my own book Jhupli's Honey Bee Box has been translated into nine languages and was named to the USBBY Outstanding International Books list. I have served as Translator-in-Residence at the British Centre for Literary Translation, University of East Anglia, and as Guest Lecturer at the Department of Translation Studies, University of Calcutta. I am a Charles Wallace India Trust Fellow and a National Foundation for India Media Fellow. Alongside translation, I bring 30+ years of editorial experience as a senior news editor (The Times of India) and earlier roles at Ei Samay, The Statesman, and Hindustan Times, giving me a sharp eye for register, tone, and accuracy in both languages. My MSc in Economics underpins subject-matter expertise in economics, public policy, and governance texts. I specialise in literary prose, poetry, children's literature, journalism and media, economics and social sciences, and general cultural and historical texts. I am a native speaker of both English and Bengali, working in both directions (English→Bengali and Bengali→English), and I bring the same rigor to a report or news article as I do to a novel.
