Love – the Most Beautiful Gift

We would like to tell you about our experience of God’s love — a love that has accompanied us throughout all the time we have been together.

When we first came to know each other, my heart had been deeply wounded by the past. I was in search of my vocation in life, full of fear and rebellion. I begged God to help me, as I was unable to cope on my own. It was then that He gave me Sebastian. Through him the Lord has taught me to trust and to love — to believe that He loves me and that through Him all things are possible.

Our hearts — Sebastian’s and mine — felt a desire for mutual friendship. God acted in us “in concert,” as it were, and yet in a way that took account of our unique personalities. In one of our talks we discerned that God was calling us to pray together. So that is what we did. Every time we met we would find time to pray that we might know God’s will concerning us. We wanted to be together, but we did not know if this was what God had in mind for us. As we prayed together on one occasion, the Lord assured us that He would reveal His will to us in prayer, and that serenity of mind would be its fruit. It wasn’t always easy to mobilize ourselves for prayer; nor were we always able to be open to God’s will. But of one thing we were certain: prayer was the only way of achieving Love and learning the truth.

Prayer brought us closer to each other, enabling us to persevere in chastity. We wanted our love to be something beautiful, gentle and pure. We wanted to offer ourselves to each other — heart and body — on our wedding day.

We had to impose and keep rules, so as not to arouse each other lustfully. The moment one of us felt the “red light” going on, it meant STOP for both of us. At such moments we prayed for God’s grace to remain chaste.

We continued to pray. We also asked our friends and family to pray on our behalf. In the end, God revealed His plan to us. Yes — He informed us — it was indeed He who had brought us together. The love that we felt for each other was His Love. He had destined us for each other, and His blessing was upon us. Our joy knew no bounds. Now we knew that even if things got very difficult, we would overcome all obstacles through Jesus. We had certain knowledge that our love would not die, since God wished it to thrive.

We often recall and talk about those times when God enabled us to discover His will by degrees. It turns out that, even before we met each other, we had both prayed for a good husband and good wife. We had prayed for the grace of meeting our partner with the proper disposition. It is now six years since we were married. Our wedding took place on the day of John Paul II’s visit to Poland (June 5, 1999). It was truly a marvelous day — a day when, in a palpably spiritual way, we felt the presence of Jesus in our hearts. His blessing and our mutual pledge of love penetrated us to the core. He was a gift to us and we were gifts to one another.

We wish to thank God for His love, for enabling us to become “one,” united in the bonds of matrimony. We also wish to thank our parents, friends, community, priests and all those who have supported us throughout our journey.

We appeal to all young couples to struggle for pure love, not to give in the world, to entrust themselves to Jesus and allow Him to lead them along His paths. It is an inexpressible and immense happiness to be able to offer oneself to another in Almighty God’s blessing. We wish your readers strength, power and love in Jesus.

Eva & Sebastian
