Forum for Translators: Scam alarm!
Hi TD,
You have a job entitled: "Hiring freelance voiceover / dubbing / TTS talents!: Job 00077766", posted by a Chinese company requiring 10 hours (ten!) of voice recording, male and female, much of it improvised, in each of several languages, with detailed instructions entirely in English.
(So they have a budget for [10h x 2 x 5+ languages =] 100+ HOURS of voice recording but not to translate the *Sample* instruction text? Ding ding ding!!)
Apart from that, they tell me -
"If your samples are approved, we will invite you to register first, where you need to fill your basic payment information and other required information in the system (inc. copy of your passport!!). After you deliver the official recording and authorization letter, we will create the PO for you in the end of that month, and the payment will be made next month."
In other words, you deliver 10 HOURS of voice recording... and *a month after that* you get a PO? ...Maybe?
And *TWO* months after delivery, you get paid.
Maybe.
NO serious agency in the voice recording industry works like this. At the very least, voice actors should expect advance/deposit payments, especially from an unknown foreign client, with no possible legal recourse.
I won't mention the name of the company here but I believe they should be clearly cited on TD until they can prove their integrity.
Thanks,
GeorgeS
I worked with Romaric Amour, Project Manager at Alchemy Translations, earlier this year. The project was completed and delivered as agreed, and I issued an invoice for 926 EUR.
Unfortunately, I have been waiting for payment since February 2025. Despite repeatedly contacting both Mr. Amour and the agency’s accounts department (invoices@alchemytranslations.com
), I have not received any response or confirmation regarding the outstanding amount.
I am posting this review to share my experience with other translators and to encourage caution when working with this agency unless clear payment terms and guarantees are established. I hope the company will resolve this matter and settle the overdue payment.
