Forum for Translators: Does anybody know client Gregory Zander?
I've been offered a job by someone called Gregory Zander offering an unusual rate for translation.
Is anyone familiar to this name or kind of job offer?
Thanks
I've been offered a job by him too, but I don't know him and I'd like to know more. I don't find information about this name...
Thanks
Hi Gaston,
I am currently in contact with this person to translate an article called "Rising Racism in Europe...".
I requested a 60% advance payment and he has agreed not only to this but confirms he will instruct his accountant to issue the full payment if I provide my name, billing address and phone number.
Considering this is a first contact I would like to be careful as well so for now I have replied requesting his full (company) details so I can send him the invoice and I have asked to provide some background information like purpose and public that is going to read the article.
Kind regards,
I also have been contacted by him. He requests the translation of 22 000 wds and the text begins also like that, Rising Racism in Europe...
He has also asked for my name, billing address and phone number, and he assures full payment of the translation in advance.
Sounds rare...
Hi all,
he assures full payment to me too and asked me for my name, billing address and phone number. It sounds really rare and...why he's confirmed the translation to three persons?
The text is the same: Rising Racism in Europe...
Are you all Spanish translators? Maybe he wants to translate to different languages? (still giving him the benefit of the doubt as you can see haha)
Still it is rather unusual to say the least of course so I will see what I can find out about this person/company if/when he comes back with the details.
Yes, he requested me the translation from english to spanish...
I've received the same email...same text, english to spanish. 100% Scam.
He replied again:
I have non-access to Paypal or bank transfer. It will be more easy for me to issue and mail a bank check... Please provide your address.
Hmmm...doesn’t sound very well.
Same thing happened to me. I got the exact same messages from him last night. It feels really weird. He also offered to pay full in advance and sent me the 'racism' text. He actually posted a job offer of 16 manuals, I contacted him for it and then he replied that the manuals were not ready yet but that he had something else for me (enter the racism text).
Here's a link to the offer: http://www.translationdirectory.com/job_00044407.php
The same happened to me Daniel,
exactly the same...
Hi all,
the job of 16 manuals is not yet available and I'm sure that the deadline was 31-12-2018.
Any news?
nothing yet, but I think it is clear that this is some kind of scam. Especially considering he is agreeing to already pay for the whole job upfront and to so many people as well... These people work step by step so once you think you are safe that's when they set the trap...
Same here. Same exact offer on Upwork:

Hi all,
the same happened to me yesterday night. I called me to proceed with the translation and that he was doing my payment...I asked him how and he told me that I will send me a check at home and an e-mail when the payment'd be done.
Now, he did the same to many persons, I think that he's trying to see if somebody do it...Or...I don't know.
It's a scam!
Hi everyone,
It happened to me too.
Yesterday he agreed to my rate for translation for this same document, and asked me for the same personal info so he could have his accountant issuing the payment.
Sounds really weird...
Hi everyone,
It happened to me too...
Hello,
but....I don't understand. If he told to everybody that he'll pay in advance, where's the trick?
He just gave me his personal data...
Gregory Zander
2913 Nancy Street Raleigh, NC 27601
But I can’t find him online in white pages and the address seems to be a residencial area.
He replied again:

Just be careful. It happened to me exactly what everybody is saying.
If you receive a check, it most likely be for more than the agreed amount and he will be asking you to cash it and return the difference, here is where the scam is. I have gone through this several times already and have always returned the original check without cashing it asking for the correct amount. Obviously not doing the work asked...
Good luck to everyone and thanks for all the comments, saved me a lot of time...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
I didn't get it. Where is the scam? If you got a check by a superior amount, can't you just cash it and that's it? Or cash it and send him the difference. Can you explain where is the scam Carlos?
Same message. I accepted the translation job two days ago and gave me instructions to start project and that payment was on its way. So sad that all the offers I have applied for are total scams...wasting my time in this platform...
I knew form the beginning this was a scam. So I played along.
Today I got a mail from him (her?) saying that I should send my credit card scanned so that he (she?) could send a card to card payment.
Of course this is a scam! So be alert!
If you know how to report this please advise!
Hi people,
Same situation in my case. I had the feeling there was something unusually wonderful about this task, now that feeling has been unfortunately confirmed. I worked for several days before I found this thread.
Hi, people,
It has happened the same situation to me. I had the feeling there was something weird about this project, now that feeling has been unfortunately confirmed. I worked for several days (it seems the very same project; Rising Racism in Europe) before I found this thread.

Dear colleagues,
Same thing happened to me. I had the feeling something was not OK with this "client," so I immediately notified him & stopped working on the translation project.
Unfortunately it was too late... I had already provided my bank account data & address.
My question is: What should I do if eventually I get the check? I have thought about telling him that I won't accept a check in a different amount than that agreed upon, but I am really dubious about all that matter...
Is it possible he can steal money from my bank account? What happens if I get the check and I do nothing about it, and just forget about all this horrible experience - first time in 6 years' experience as a translator.
I would very much appreciate any tipp/advice on how to proceed on my part.
