Re[2]: Non-payers
I have a suggestion: As we all know, the "safety" of distance motivates more and more employers in our business to defraud translators, mostly for amounts around 200 to 800 Euro, not enough to make legal action worth while. Rarely do we find large amounts unpaid.
The profit from these assignments therefore must lie in their quantity. What this means is that it only works if any number of translators are a) 'hungry' enough and b) don't know how to recognize a bad payer.
We cannot do that much about the 'hungry' translators, globalization and the ensuing price deterioration are a done deal. What we can address is preventing such 'repeat business' for the bad/non payers by publicizing blacklists. For free.
I am sure, it would motivate translators to feel 'like family' here at TranslationDirectory if that essential protection tool were offered by way of invitation. After all, most of the fraudulent jobs are posted here and on services like this.
What do you all think? I found exposure the most effective means to put bad guys out of business. In this case, we can use the same means they use to defraud us to expose them.
Thanks.
