Just got out of Laos, in Vientiane, its capital city, where I purchased
a two-month visa for Thailand. Now I can go there and relax. Gonna hook
up with Justin, the guy whose house I stayed at in Bulgaria. It's supposed
to be a paradise island, but big party place too, so it will be fun spending
Christmas and New Year’s with him again - now twice in a row. It will
be nice to be able to speak English with many people, party a bit, and
finally get some decent beach action, hopefully. Have only had two days
of beach so far. But yesterday I was talking with a bloke I hooked up
with how perfect the climate is. This is precisely the reason why I started
this travel mission in the first place.
Europe is too cold for me, and am so glad I'm moving on. People in Laos
and other areas constantly try to overcharge you to death, but Thais have
always been honest and friendly with me, which is why I'd like to make
it my home here for a while. In the summer I'm thinking of North Vietnam,
where the weather will be tolerable and the people very nice up in the
mountains. And the girls are supposed to be the best looking in Asia.
Already in Laos it was pretty good, as is North Vietnam. So far I'm still
adjusting to the culture and people here. Quite a change.

Very happy I'm here and the weather and the girls and everything. Would
be lovely to find a peaceful island. The bloke I got the Thai visa with
is on a peaceful island and accepted like family and he invited me there,
so perhaps I'll go there after my next visa run, unless it gets too hot.
Picked up some interesting work recently, for different clients. One for
putting some links on many of my sites and other things for about $600,
and some commission ads on his big traffic translation site that will
hopefully get me a lot of $99 customers (sending out translator CVs –
about 1 hour of work each and ten a month would basically put me into
retirement). Then a treeplanting company, making webpages, developing
the accounting software, perhaps around a thousand bucks, and then I picked
up a big job I managed and made about 1,200 Euro over a weekend, so slowly
building back my reserves.

Bought a Thai dictionary and trying to learn the language. Definitely
thinking of getting a motorbike and tent/sleeping bag. Would be the best
way to discover Asia and get out of these buses linking only major areas.
But Asians are pretty picky about cleanliness and are making me shower
practically twice a day. I also think my sweat might be a bit stinky cause
my body is still adjusting to the bacteria here. Maybe time will fix that,
but their cleanliness is cut. They take their shoes off even when entering
stores.

Just got passed the border, back into peaceful and honest Thailand, and
will be working until my train tonight, and looks like a two day trip.
Easy to sleep on the trains and they have electricity, so I can work.
Translating for a direct customer about the history of Czechs in Cleveland.
$300 smallish job but interesting. So all my jobs at the moment are interesting
and hope it stays that way. And they've all been paying in advance
or immediately afterwards, so nice cash injection. By the time you're
ready to visit I'll have some perfect places to take you. Hopefully
I'll have enough saved up to pay your way. You need some relax injection
once in a while.
So are you guys in some horrible debt or just starting all over again?
If the latter then I think you'll get back on your feets quickly again.
I myself have gotten used to the roller coaster ride and it almost makes
life more interesting. But would definitely be nice to be making more
money. Or at least enough consistently not to have to worry. Looking forward
to jogging barefoot on the beach again.

Well, that's all I can think of for now!
