Dear People,

I have been writing and translating technical, legal, medical, financial and many other documents for many years. I am presently winding down a multi-thousand page Court of Appeals case with countless motions and briefs.

What is my next assignment?

Let’s start with the catch: I am up on a mountain in Southern Oregon and can travel to some extent but not abandon the land and its animals in the hands of caretakers for a long time. This means I can go anywhere for initial consultations and to get acquainted with people and projects and it also means I can maintain seamless contact while I’m away. But the main portion of work would need to be performed in the well-focussed privacy of my home office. No traffic, no TV, no airplanes (other than – some day – perhaps our own), no commuting stress, no distractions. But whoever the agency/employer must trust me to be sane enough that I won’t do bad work, just because no-one is looking over my shoulders . . . and ruin my reputation. Wouldn’t be smart, would it?

I also know that I don’t fit into any of the standard HR categories. It takes a degree of outside-the-box vision to recognize that here – that being me – we may have a truly efficient and competent solution for a complex set of problems. In the past, in fact, I was often hired “accidentally”, i.e. for something else than I ended up doing because my initial task only touched the surface of a more involved situation.

Documentation most often reflects all the ingredients to such a situation and also offers the “handles” to start resolving it.
