Hello and thank you for visiting my profile! I\'m a freelance French-English translator from Sheffield, and I specialise in scientific and technical translation. I have a slightly unusual background for a translator - I am qualified to postgraduate level in Applied Physics and Communications Engineering, and I used to be an aerospace systems engineer! But science isn\'t the whole story with me. I\'ve always loved languages and writing too, and I have nearly ten years of experience living in France and studying in the French education system, which is a pretty good background for a translator (if I may blow my own trumpet for a minute.) I\'ve been working in the field for just over a year and have had no complaints so far, touch wood! I\'m aware of the value of a formal qualification, however, so I sat the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation in January 2010 (I\'m currently awaiting my results.) With an academic and professional background like mine, specialising in scientific/technical translations was an obvious choice. I have a good grasp of all areas of science, and an exceptional level of familiarity with physics, engineering I.T. and mathematics terminology and concepts. However, I am also happy to translate material from a wide range of other subject areas - literature, social science, politics and more! In fact, at this stage in my career I am seeking to work on as many different types of translation as possible, to get a feel for what I like best and fine-tune my skills in as many ways as I can. With a daily output of 3500-4000 words I provide a fast and reliable service and am equipped with both Trados and Wordfast software packages (though I am happy to translate manually too.) I also do transcriptions, editing and proofreading. As I am keen to build up my portfolio I offer competitive rates too, so why not get in touch? Thanks again for reading! Daisy. | |
