My translation career began in 1988 in the Republic of South Africa for the South African Defence Force. Here I translated various documents from Portuguese into English and continued doing so upon my return to Portugal.
After living in the Republic of South Africa for eleven years, where I completed high school and acquired the Matric Certificate (secondary education), I enrolled in a Civil Construction Drafting Course (ISCED3) in Portugal. Here I translated English subject matter into Portuguese for homework assignments and sometimes for other classmates.
When I first entered the job market my first job was not in the construction sector but in the industrial sector, for a company that assembled stretch wrapping machines. Among other tasks, which included contact with overseas clients and transporters, I also assisted with the compilation of the English version operating manuals of those machines.
In 2001 I started translating on a more regular basis upon being admitted to a company specializing in underground works. Now in my favourite working environment, I began with the translating of written parts of engineering drawings and drawings complementing soil investigation reports upon request by some of our clients.
Currently I am translating professionally in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, geology and most of the commercial areas of the company\'s scope of work. My speciality fields have also grown and I am a more experienced translator.
I am perfectly at ease with both English and Portuguese and have a high capacity for research work which, in my opinion, is an essential requirement for accurate and precise translating.
