The team at Lionbridge Technologies with solution centres in 25 countries worldwide is recruiting part-time self-employed workers who are fluent speakers in icelandic and English who are based in Iceland to join its team of Internet Assessors.

Requirements:
- Proficiency in English is essential
- Fluency in icelandic is essential
- We are seeking people who have access to the internet, and are confident in using the Internet
- Background in IT is helpful but not essential
- For cultural and historical awareness purposes you must be resident in Iceland for 5 consecutive years

The main aim of the work is to improve the quality of a search engine’s results for all web users worldwide. The work involves evaluating results of a web search, for their appropriateness to the search query input. You will be required to provide feedback i.e. your opinion of the result displayed.

The hours are flexible to fit around your family and home life, and the position is ideal for someone looking for a work-life balance (10-20 hours per week).

Details of the project: SDL International (www.sdl.com) is a leading supplier of localisation services to the IT, financial, engineering, construction equipment, telecomms, electronics, automotive, life sciences, e-business, petroleum & multimedia sectors.

In relation to a tender for translation services relating to the aviation sector we are looking to increase our pool of experienced Icelandic translators specialised in aviation.

The required translator profile is as follows:

• University degree or equivalent qualification in Aeronautical Engineering PLUS translation experience into the mother tongue language, equivalent to 1000 std pages (approx. 250,000 words), or one year’s full-time work (in-house translator)
OR

• University degree or equivalent qualification in Translation PLUS specialisation evidenced by Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering PLUS translation experience into the mother tongue language, equivalent to 1000 std pages (approx. 250,000 words), at least 500 of which (approx. 125,000 words) in the field of Aviation, or one year’s full-time work (in-house translator)
OR

• University degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline PLUS translation experience into the mother tongue language, equivalent to 1000 std pages (approx. 250,000 words) in the field of Aviation, or one year’s full-time work (in-house translator)

Tender requirements are that interested candidates who feel they meet these requirements MUST provide:

• Acceptable proof e.g. reference letters, copies of invoices, certificates, which must clearly indicate the volume of work undertaken, language combination and the translator name. Self-declarations cannot be accepted.

ONLY candidates demonstrating relevant experience and meeting these requirements will be considered.

Candidates must be Icelandic mother-tongue.

SOFTITLER®, a division of Deluxe® Digital Studios, is currently seeking individual mother tongue freelance translators with a translation degree or experience, to create subtitles for Hollywood films (mostly in American English) that are subsequently released on DVD (Digital Video Disks) and/or for streaming for Internet video.

It is possible to work with us as long as one has 10 hours availability per week and access to a computer (not Macintosh) of adequate capacity. Preference is given to translators who are in possession of a DSL or higher speed Internet connection.
