"I'm
outta here" & "Office life"
I've really suffered from having to stay in my office
this winter. The grey weather in particular hasn’t
done much to entice me out. Not only have I found
it hard for the first time in five years to be in
the same four walls so much, but I've also felt
very lonely. The fact that two of my close friends
who used to work nearby and who I used to see regularly
for lunch/coffee/a nice chat, changed jobs a few
months ago hasn’t helped…

energy, or "chi" through your environment for maximum
physical, mental, and spiritual health and balance,
feng shui, (pronounced "fung shway")…

Feng Shui for the Freelance
Translator
Feng shui
is the ancient art of placement and design used
to balance and enhance the energy flow in living
environments. The Chinese have relied on feng shui
for over 3,000 years to assure an abundance of wealth
and love in their lives. Feng shui experts believe
that by creating harmony and balance in your physical
environment you will attract good luck and prosperity
in all areas of your life. So what does this have
to do with freelance translators?

Translator's Home Office
Home
is where your pillow is, and for a freelance translator,
it's also where the desk with its attendant office
equipment and dictionaries is. But what office equipment
is right for a translator? Should you buy that Thinking
Machines II system, good for sequencing the genome
of a wholly mammoth, but perhaps overkill for a
translator? Is MAT software a wise investment? And
what can you do to ease the financial burden of
all this equipment, not to mention the mammoth,
should you go ahead and engineer one?
