Runs online professional translation courses from French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese into English and English into French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Two courses are offered: (1) WLS Professional Certificate in Translation which is available in different formats to suit novice or experienced translators. Focuses on practical translation training with topic areas typical to commercial translation. Uses a wide range of document types, typically submitted for translation to agencies. The course offers 8 topic areas: Short Documents, Business, Marketing/Advertising/Tourism, Legal, Social/Political/EU, Technology, Science, IT. Courses may be broadly based or specialize in any one of those topic areas e.g. Professional Certificate in Legal Translation. Certification awarded on the basis of continuous assessment. (2) CIOL DipTrans: especially suitable for those interested in literary or journalistic translation as document types mainly drawn from journalistic sources, including for the Business, Science and Technology units. Also offers units in General Translation, Literature, Social Science, Arts & Culture, Law. Diploma awarded on passing 3 units in "one-off" online examination held twice-yearly in January and July. Registration for examination in Single Unit possible with Certificates awarded, if successful. In this way, it is possible to obtain e.g. a Certificate in Literary Translation without sitting an examination in other topics that may not be of interest.
